CDRC 2016 – Arriving in Vienna

By Aled Davies June 28, 2016

The Consensual Dispute Resolution Competition Vienna is an exciting newcomer to the world of international negotiation and mediation competitions. Inspired by the success of the Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, the CDRC was created to offer a similar experience for those interested in consensual dispute resolution methods, such as negotiation and mediation.

The idea is simple: 30 teams of select students from around the world competing in an epic tournament to determine the most skilled negotiators and mediators among them. 50 of the top mediation and negotiation experts from around the world are present to judge, assess and provide feedback. The competition takes place over a total of 7 rounds with more than 50 sessions. Awards are given to the top mediators and negotiators respectively, as assessed by the expert panels of judges.

Outside of the tournament itself, competitors are able to enjoy daily social events, networking and training opportunities with a host of experts, taking place in the recently opened campus of the University of Economics and Business Vienna.

Aled Davies, founder of, is an expert assessor at the competition. This is the first in a series of vlogs where Aled will catch up with some of the other expert assessors and participants in the tournament, all filmed directly from Vienna.
